"Mountain lament"is one of the representative classical repertoires of Hakka Zheng school. The style characteristics of Hakka Zheng and its performance features were introduced by detailed analysis of the musical features and cultural connotation of"Mountain lament". And the questions about how to master the features and connotation of Hakka Zheng must be paid attention to were illustrated as follow by my own learning. Firstly, GuangDong Chinese traditional music, which was mainly Hakka stringed music, the matrix of Hakka Zheng and its function in GuangDong Chinese traditional music should be understood. Secondly, the form of ensemble with GuangDong Chinese traditional music and the singing of"gongchi"notation, which is the method of oral teaching and inspiration of true understanding, are important on learning the features of Hakka Zheng; furthermore, the impromptu laws of Hakka Zheng performance are also necessary to master. Finally, understanding the cultures, the history, and the life of Hakkas are very important and this is the necessity for mastering the musical features of Hakka Zheng.
