The Small Seal Script calligraphers from Qin Dynasty's Li Si to Tang Dynasty's Li Yang Bing all used "Yu Zhu Seal Script". Because these calligraphers had such artistic ability, future generations of calligraphers faced difficulty in achieving their level of mastery. However, in the Qing Dynasty, Deng Shi Ru appeared and developed more substantive content for the Small Seal Script, expanding the ideas and meaning associated with the script. Because of Deng Shi Ru's contributions, the appearance and style of the Small Seal Script changed. This thesis will discuss the author's findings and research concerning all aspects of Deng Shi Ru's Small Seal Script artistry.
