The Joy Luck Club is the masterpiece of Amy Tan, who is a female American-born Chinese. In her novel, four pairs of Chinese-born mothers and American-born daughters are delicately characterized. The analysis and interpretation of the mother-daughter relationships are the points of my thesis. The thesis attempts to present a new representative of Chinese mothers and their American-born daughters, showing their emotional conflicts caused by different living background and cultures between America and China. With the improvement of China's international status, Chinese culture's status in the west will be improved. These difficulties and dilemmas are not exclusive to the women characters in The Joy Luck Club, which become the main topics in Chinese American literature. Chinese Americans begin to change their minds towards identities and know well about their identities. Amy Tan's The Joy Luck Club has an effect and re-evaluation on Chinese culture and this novel is a very good guide to the delicate change of attitude towards Chinese and American cultural integration.
