The purpose of this exploratory study is to find the problems in the present English language teaching and a better educational method for English teachers to equip students with a comprehensive communicative competence.In the process, the aim of the language education is redefined in which the intercultural communication has been played an important role. Along with it, Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), as the most accepted concept for English education aiming at the communicative competence, is reexamined and adapted to current Chinese educational situation and phenomenon.Under the help of the scientific research methods such as spot check, sample questionnaire and data analysis as well as the interviews, it arrives at the conclusion that the experimental changes must be made in the English teaching in the 21st century in order to help students to acquire a general communicative competence which can enable them to comfortably cope with various intercultural situations in the world.
