Xi Xia is an ideal character of traditional and modern union that Jia Pingwa portrays. The contradictory conflict between the city and countryside is always the object that Jia Pingwa pays attention to. Traditional village has inevitably stepped to the degenerated path in aspects of economy, culture, morals, etc, and traditional culture essence is also shattered by the modern material civilization. Cities develop fast in the modernized advancement, but their own malpractice also gradually reveal. The contest between villages and cities is inevitable in aspect of development space, production method and cultural spirit, etc, but Jia Pingwa holds dual critical manner to villages and cities, therefore he constructed "the God Grain Plateau", which merits the advantages of villages and cities.
