| Vocabulary teaching is an import part of Korean language education. Current vocabulary teaching is relatively shallow and almost no specific studies on textbook vocabularies for the vocabulary teaching. Past studies of vocabulary are limited in terms of clarifying the standard of selecting the basic vocabularies. The real analysis of vocabulary should be started gradually and systematically based on the situation of each grade.This paper targets on current elementary school Korean language textbook, classify the vocabulary by word class, etymology, frequency, calculate the percentage, then do investigation and analysis based on the result. Also study the problems occur during vocabulary usage, and set specific solution for these issues. Because one's vocabulary is proportional to one's cognitive abilities, I explained the cognitive abilities of elementary school students in the solution. Vocabulary is an important standard to value one's language level; also it plays an import role during the language learning process. Vocabulary is the basic to learn a language. Cognitive abilities vary according to different grades, so the vocabularies are also not the same. Therefore vocabulary should be different based on students'grades to fit the learner's cognitive abilities. Korean language textbook vocabulary for elementary school should be arranged by consistency, persistency, balance and complex. At the last part, this paper amplified the reasonable solution for vocabulary teaching, including building vocabulary index based on different grades and vocabulary teaching methods etc.I hope this research will be helpful for the future edition of the elementary school Korean language textbook. |
