China and Japan are close neighbors separated only by a strip of water. According to literature record, China and Japan have opened the friendly intercourse and cultural exchanges from Han dynasty of the 1st century BC. Especially in Tang Dynasty, which was exactly in the period of Feiniao, Nailiang and Pingan in Japan, the intercourse between China and Japan was more frequent, the extensive cultural exchanges were carried out by sending envoys, dispatching students and so on, and it is the golden age of Sino-Japanese cultural exchange.Costume culture, as a part of Chinese culture, has long attracted people's attention, and also attracts the attention of academic circles. Costume is an important component of the humanity material life, and also the physical and chemical form of the humanity spiritual world. It is a symbol, which represents the economy, culture, politics, religion, social ethic, custom, lifestyles and ideology of a nation in a certain historical period, and simultaneously refracts the cultural exchanges, dissemination and fusion between nations of a certain historical period. Tang Dynasty is the heyday of China's feudal society costume culture. Tang Dynasty costume holds the source of the history crown clothing system, opens the road of later generation crown clothing system, has left a thick and heavy ink for China costume cultural history, and has a great impact on the costume of neighboring countries. Japanese costume was influenced by the costume of Chinese Sui and Tang dynasties era and developed on the basis of them.Based on the political, economic, and cultural background analysis on China and Japan in Tang Dynasty, this paper discusses the conditions and forms of Sino-Japanese cultural exchange, explores the costume culture development vein of the two countries, seeks for the characteristics of their respective development, from which could find the concrete influence of the Tang Dynasty costume culture on the Japanese costume culture in textile, sewing technology, costume system, costume design, color and costume accessories. Thus it makes us have a deeper understanding to the Sino-Japanese costume culture development in Tang Dynastyan, and has the profound significance on discussing the historical inheritance of national costume culture.
