| The 1945-1990 is an extremely important period in American family history .The phenomenon of divorce had became increasingly common in the United States. In 1981, the divorce rate reached its peak ,one out of two marriages ended in divorce .The American Divorce rate has been in a leading position in comparison with other European and American countries. however, before World War II, it was relatively cautious for people choosing divorce .Why was the divorce rate rapidly rising in the post war United States? Which influences did the high divorce rate show in the United States. This paper attempts to analysis the causes of high divorce from the social, economic, cultural, legal, demographic and other aspects .Whether the Model of Family is really distorted and destroyed or not. Whether divorce is a symbol of a failed marriage .It would help us more clearer understanding of American society and culture by analysis.The paper mainly use the material of American official data, report writings and the works of American scholars. The methods in the study are based on the methods of history, sociology, demography, law and psychology to research and analyze the cautions of American high divorce rate after World War II to 1990s .The paper includes the introduction, main body, conclusion, appendix and references .The main body has been divided into four parts.The first part introduces divorce situation before World War II in America. The second part compares the marital status from the women 's marital status ,changes in the economy, family models, the concept of marriage, life expectancy and birth control technology aspects before and after World War II in the United States. Thus revealing the changes before and after World War II and divorce characteristics emerged after World War II.The third part discusses the causes of the high divorce rate after World War II. Analysis of the causes of the high divorce rate from various aspects .Such as the implementation of no-fault divorce law, broad-based employment of married women, sexual liberation ,feminism ,the concept of marriage, demographic factors , cohabitation and so on.The fourth part discusses the impact of the high divorce rate .From the remarriage, female single-parent families ,mixed families to the impact of divorce for children .The conclusion part briefly describes the emergence of new trends in marriage and the family in the United States .Pointed out the change certainly does not signal a reversal of trends back toward what they were in the 1950s.Different historical periods would present different characteristics. At the same time ,author points out that divorce does not represent a historical regression ,on the contrary ,it reflects people pay more attention to the quality of family life and marriage .At present ,China is in the peak of the third divorce ,but facing the divorce , most people is still difficult to accept.
