The 1945-1990 is an extremely important period in American family history .The phenomenon of divorce had became increasingly common in the United States. In 1981, the divorce rate reached its peak ,one out of two marriages ended in divorce .The American Divorce rate has been in a leading position in comparison with other European and American countries. however, before World War II, it was relatively cautious for people choosing divorce .Why was the divorce rate rapidly rising in the post war United States? Which influences did the high divorce rate show in the United States. This paper attempts to analysis the causes of high divorce from the social, economic, cultural, legal, demographic and other aspects .Whether the Model of Family is really distorted and destroyed or not. Whether divorce is a symbol of a failed marriage .It would help us more clearer understanding of American society and culture by analysis.The paper mainly use the material of American official data, report writings and the works of American scholars. At the same time ,author points out that divorce does not represent a historical regression ,on the contrary ,it reflects people pay more attention to the quality of family life and marriage .At present ,China is in the peak of the third divorce ,but facing the divorce , most people is still difficult to accept.
