In 1871, with the establishment of the Second Reich, the German ended a long-term split separatist political situation since modern history, established a unified bourgeois nation-state, and achieved an important modern German social transformation. This paper is a preliminary study about the modern culture of nationalism in the process of the unification of Germany. Due to the particularity in social development and national spirit, German took a different way in the process of development of modern nationalism. As a modern trend of thought and social practice, German nationalism was not only an important role in the reunification of Germany but also an important leading role in Germany's economic and social transformation.Studying the modern German cultural nationalism and its role of national unity has some of reference and practical significance for us to understand and deal with the unification of ChinaThis article is divided into introduction, body, conclusion and references in four parts. Body consists of three parts:modern German cultural nationalism on the development process, the role of its national unity and reunification process of the development characteristics of specific discussion. The first part, because of its unique national conditions, German had divided into several parts in long time, which made the lower classes lack the national consciousness and high society was flooded with foreign culture. But with the Enlightenment, hurricane advance movement, the French Revolution, especially under the influence of the Napoleonic wars, the German national consciousness was germinating and growing to form a new cultural nationalism which was different from Britain, France and other countries. The second part discusses the German cultural nationalism in the unification of Germany, mainly to promote the German national identity, and inspire national enthusiasm and firm belief in national unity. The third part discusses development orientation of the German cultural nationalism after the recent reunification of Germany. In the unification process of German, cultural nationalism played a positive role, and laid the ideological foundation early. German cultural nationalism gradually move to political nationalism. And in the process of German reunification, German cultural nationalism was changing into militarism and chauvinism, which produced passive influence.
