Sibelius, as the national pride for all his people, who is always regarded as Finnish"spiritual leader", is the very important national composer in music at the end of romanticism era, for which his nation, Finland has given him the honour and glory to some great extent before and after his death. Being the national pride, his music with the exhibition of Finnish national essence and the wonderful natural beauty of Northern European, not only promoted the development of the later romanticism, but also made Finnish music recorded on the history of the world.Sibelius has produced many pieces of music and his favorite instrument is violin. This"Violin Concerto in d Minor", being the masterpiece in the world violin literature, is generally accepted as one of the greatest violin concertos, which is also his only one piece in concerto. It is another masterpiece after Paganini established the tradition of Virtuoso. But at the same time it is not a virtuoso simply, for it is also rich with the deeply national feelings and beautifully natural beauty of the Northern Europe.The thesis consists of three parts, including Introduction, main body with four sections and Conclusion. In Introduction, the author illustrates why to choose this as the topic and introduces the current research home and abroad. As for the main body, the author puts it into four sections, with Section 1—Sibelius and his"Violin Concerto in d Minor", focusing on his life background, major achievements and the background of the"Violin Concerto in d Minor"; with Section 2 -- the musical characteristics of the"Violin Concerto in d Minor", concentrating on analysis of the melody, structure, speed and rhythm, the relation between violin and the band; with Section 3 -- the technical analysis of the"Violin Concerto in d Minor", mainly about the use of right and left hand in playing this concerto; with Section 4–- the national style and romantic feelings of the"Violin Concerto in d Minor", mainly round the appreciation of the national and romantic style. The Conclusion is the summary of the whole thesis.Based on the present literature and musical materials, the author attempts to analyze this concerto multiply in many aspects by mixing her own experiencing the music. No matter in terms of the music study or of the practical display, the author tries her best to illustrate it thoroughly and comprehensively so as to make the reader learn and understand more about Sibelius and his works.
