The southern of Hunan, which has vast land, sparsely population and complicated immigration, was the land of Southern Barbarians in the past. Linwu county is located in the southern frontier of Hunan province, and it is aslo located on the southwest of Chen county, the north of Guangdong province, and the east of Lanshan county. It is a bi-dialect region with both mandarin and local dialect used at the same time. According to Chinese Language Atlas, the Linwu local dialect is classified as Xiangnan local dialect with indeterminate species. Xiangnan local dialect is very characteristic in its complicated phonological phenomenon and inner difference. To our knowledge, there are little researches on Linwu local dialect, and much effort is needed in this area. Herein, Linwu (Chujiang) local dialect was studied,The paper includes five chapters.The introduction part shows us the geography, the history, the population of Linwu county and Chujiang. It also introduce the presents studies on Linwu dialect and the emphasis and the main purpose of our research.The second chapter is the phonology of Linwu (Chujiang) local dialect. The phonology and property were discussed in detail, including the phonological, intonation system, and their coorperating law, character. Its comparation with the phonetic sound of Beijing and medieval times.The third chapter is homophony syllabaryThe forth chapter is the comparation with other local dialect around.The last chapter is the conclusion. We compare Chujiang local dialect with other local dialect, including Xiang dilect, Hakka-Gan dialect, Southwest mandarin and other Xiangnan local dialect, and then the character of Chujiang local dialect was summarized.
