Watercolor painting is one of western art painting types, which was introduced into China about a century ago. Foreign as it is to Chinese artist, it is easily approved by them and loved by Chinese people, for it has some similarities to traditional Chinese paintings in technique of painting. Under the background of our art prosperity, watercolor art creation keeps giving us pleasant surprises. Chinese watercolor art works have greatly pioneered both in the content of works. Watercolor painters tend to paint still life, which has become popular. In recent years, the development of Chinese Watercolor painting of still life is impressive. Through the development of creativity, Chinese watercolor still life paintings achieved a high degree: the content and the form of the works both have a great development. This thesis selects a few of the watercolor artists'typical works to analyze, through these works, we can clearly see that the contemporary watercolor still life paintings have the new appearance in terms of the update of concept at the exploration of poetic imagery and the use of techniques and materials. Its significance marks the trend of Chinese contemporary watercolor still life painting. In this thesis, it is to investigate the new development of watercolor still life paintings in the modern era. The purpose is to tap and feel the charm of watercolor art of still life paintings and to seek the continuous developmental possibility of Chinese watercolor art. The thesis has four parts: each of them has some illustrative instance to demonstrate the contention. The first part research the advance of the own skill. The second part investigates the extension of the representation form. The third part expatiate the diversification of the used material. The fourth part demonstrates the progress of the pattern.
