Black-glazed porcelain takes an important position in the history of Chinese ancient ceramics. Depth research on the forming mechanics and firing schedules of high-iron crystallization glazes has great significance in reproducing this historical treasure. In this study, the Hare's Fur black-glazed porcelain sherds excavated from Jian kiln site, Jizhou kiln site and Yaozhou kiln site were adopted as test samples. The glaze and body compositions, microstructures, crystal attributes, firing temperatures and Hare's Fur forming mechanics were studied by means of EDXRF, EPMA/EDS, XRD, and Thermal Dilatometer. The Multivariate Statistical Analysis was applied to investigate the characteristics of the glaze and body compositions from the above three kiln sites. Similarities and differences among the Hare's Fur black-glazed porcelain samples from Jian kiln, Jizhou kiln and Yaozhou kiln were identified.Based on the study results about the black-glaze, high-iron crystallization glazes of various kinds of visual appearances were prepared by the selection of appropriate mineral and chemical materials and by the control of firing schedules including temperature schedules and atmosphere schedules. The influence of firing schedules on the formation of high-iron crystallization glaze was investigated. Microstructures of the glazes were also deeply studied.
