A Study On The Current Situations Of College Students' Psychological Needs

Aims:This thesis analyzes college students'psychological needs and explores the overall situation as well as the developing and changing rules of their psychological needs, aiming at providing a theoretical basis and effective ways for college educational and ideological work.Methods:This thesis adopts Huang Xiting's "questionnaire of college students' needs" and randomly selects 1,000 students as subjects from three universities in Luoyang city. The subjects are required to evaluate 18 kinds of needs:The most important need is ranked as the first level, the second important as the second level...the least important as the eighteenth level. SPSS 16.0 will be used to analyze the 946 valid questionnaires.Results:The results are as follows:1. The first five leading needs belong to the high level needs while the last five non-leading needs belong to the low level needs. In terms of the psychological needs, the correlation coefficient of students in different eras is less than that of students from different areas.2. There exists significant correlation between the psychological needs of different grades. But the difference is that the correlation coefficient between Grade One and any one from the other three grades (Grade Two, Grade Three and Grade Four) is less than 0.8, while the correlation coefficient between any two from the three grades (Grade Two, Grade Three and Grade Four) is more than 0.8. In the significant test, there exists significant difference between Grade One and the other three grades on 4 to 6 aspect of needs; between Grade Four and the other three grades, on 2 to 6 aspects; and between Grade Two and Grade Three, only 1 aspect.3. There exists significant correlation between the psychological needs of different genders. However, the significance test shows that there exists significant difference on 7 aspects of needs between different genders.4. There exists significant correlation between the psychological needs of different majors. However, the significance test shows that there exists significant difference on 3 aspects of needs between different majors.Conclusion:In general, the contemporary college students'psychological needs are reasonable, positive and progressive. In terms of the psychological needs, certain differences exist between different grades, vital differences exist between different genders, but only minor differences exist between different majors. Therefore, it is important to meet college students'reasonable psychological needs, coordinate the differences of their needs, enhance the level of their needs, and as well as predict the developmental trend of their needs. In a word, it is essential to find the proper and effective way to carry out college educational work.
