Form the perspective of ecocriticism, this article hope to analyze "The Shipping News" with some significant ecological theory to excavate ecological thought implied in Annie·Proulx's works. In an era of Integration of the World and the Economic Globalization, people were crazy to amass material wealth, individuality tends to the same, the spiritual world tends to lose and even collapse. This paper which based on this background make a ecological study, it's ultimate aim is to explore a road to spiritual return while Criticising modern civilization. In addition to introduction and epilogue, I will study the ecological thought of Anne·Proulx from four aspects in the article.The first chapter digs up ecological thought implied in "The Shipping News". There are criticism of industrial civilization, partly "Nature Reenchantment", "This in" Dwelling in the "world", and a strong home consciousness, sense of place.Chapter II discovers the unique ecological thought implyed in "The Ship News":relationship of man and nature, society, themselves, tends to systematic; maintaining the integrity of myself spirit sublimating to concern about the spiritual independence of public; form concerning about the damage to human health to stress challenges to the human heart freedom. These innovations have a significant impact on reality, mainly expanding theme of ecological literature, enriching content of ecological aesthetics, increasing attention to human mental health, favourable to the formation of a harmonious society.The third chapter approaches the causes of Anne·Proulx's ecological thought. They were formed, mainly, against the background of a strong world's ecological trend; and influnced by existential philosophy of Heidegger of Germany, deconstruction philosophy represented by Michel Foucault, and constructivist philosophy represented by David·Ray·Griffin in the United States. They were also benefited from the society transformation taking place in American and domestic ecological culture. Her thought also inherited the traditional ecological views in the United States. Under the influence of various power, Anne·Proulx's ecological thought was born.ChapterⅣindicates limitations and confusion of Anne·Proulx's ecological thought. Anne·Proulx's answer is a return to nature and nature of people for obtaining esthetic survivals. But Anne·Proulx also understands that the further invasion of industrial civilization is inevitable in Newfoundland, the nature of people may again be covered. She took a confused attitude about the future. This article re-examines her ecological thought by ecological ontology, and identifies its shortcomings, trying to coach and transcend her thought. the proper approach is to realize the reversal of the mainstream values, and broke out a cultural revolution in the whole of mankind. Ecological ontology will ultimately become the dominant world view in the post-industrial era.Anne·Proulx's ecological thought is of importance to construct a harmonious society. On the relationship between man and nature, it conducives to realize sustainable development in a harmonious society; about human relations, it helps to promote harmony within the human society; among human relations to their ego, it better guides the human mind to freedom.
