Now,Chongqing EMS is confronted with great challenge. Firstly,along with many private express companies' entrance into the market of express,the monopoly market of express of Chongqing is converting into a non-monopoly one,and the competition is increasingly serious. Secondly,after China made entrance into WTO at the end of 2001,the industry of express will open to the world completely,and some big express enterprises of foreign countries will enter the market of Chongqing,which will be a great impact on the express market of Chongqing. Thirdly,with the rapid development of IT and E-commerce,the growth rate of traditional portfolio of express is declining. This paper mainly studies the competitive strategy of Chongqing EMS while facing the increasingly intense market competition.First,the author briefly introduces the origin and the fundamental theories of the competitive strategy and states the chief points of Porter's theory of competitive strategy. This paper puts emphasis on the Five Forces Model and the general competitive strategies,and points out the problems of Porter's theory of competitive strategy when carrying out. Then,aiming at the problems,this paper introduces two new theories of competitive strategy - the dynamic competitive strategy and the core competencies theory. Third,on the basis of the theory of competitive strategy,this paper emphatically studies the application of the competitive strategy in a specific state owned enterprise - Chongqing EMS. With the analysis of the interior and exterior competitive environment and the condition of main rivals,it sets forth clearly the arriving challenges and the threats of Chongqing EMS and the development of the core competencies,and analyzes the chief advantages and disadvantages with the Value Chain Analysis. Finally,based on the correlative theories of competitive strategy,the author chooses a major competitive strategy for Chongqing EMS.
