This thesis focuses on the situation of the real estate industry of China. Real estate is a comparatively new field in our country. It is very important to keep the sustainable, healthy and stable development of the real estate industry. It is also essential to confirm the status and the pillar industry position of real estate industry in the national economy. The pillar industry is of vital importance in Gross National Product and Gross Industrial Product in the present and future development. Whether a industry can be a pillar industry, the most important is whether its output and income may account for the largest proportion in the national economy.The thesis tries to analyze the economic characteristics of industrial policies, clarify the significance of pillar industry, and confirm the basic concepts of real estate. Secondly, it looks back on the development process of real estate industry, and studies the status and functions of real estate industry in the national economy. Focusing on the question of its status by using theoretical and practical, integral and partial, internal and external, static and dynamic methods synthetically, this thesis gives a set of standards to judge whether a certain industry may take the role of a pillar industry in the gross economy when supported by the existent industry policies. Enough analyses are presented for the industrial features and development of real estate industry.According to the judging standards of pillar industry, or the industrial gross output and the growth rate, the standard of demand-income elasticity, the coefficient of industrial infection degree and influence power, the contribution standards of employment, the thesis presents a particular study on the pillar industry status of real estate in which the market of real estate in Chongqing is comprehensively analyzed and case studies are given for the pillar industry status of real estate. Through analysis the urbanization process of China, the author illuminates urbanization can bring great development.
