Infrastructure, providing the platform for living and producing, is the basic public service system to guarantee the national or regional social and economic activities to normally operate. Infrastructure Key Node (IKN) which is constructed as the most significant connector in the infrastructure network and as the point where the complexity of infrastructure system emerges. The IKN is highly regarded as the essential factors causing the uncertainty and vulnerability. Technical malfunction can be updated and magnified to social crisis through IKN, influencing the reliability of the whole system. Demands of infrastructure are not hanging about the basic function, but more stable, reliable, sustainable and intelligent services. Currently, China is experiencing the period of high speed development, in which investing on infrastructure is a significant way to impulse the economy. Conversely, the great leap forward in infrastructure is also another engine to the economy. Accompany by the high-speed railway time, encouraging the new energy and smart grid under low-carbon economy, infrastructures in China are facing a new round of boom. In this process, the urgency and importance of enhancing the infrastructure reliability is self-evident. Modeling and simulation techniques can improve the ability of IKN to routine management and deal with dangerous and emergent events. Besides, the evolving result on simulation system can also guide the development in real system.Focusing on the IKN, this paper quests the method of modeling and simulation on IKN properties. First, the research reviews the current theories and achievements in the area and proposes that the large scale technical systems, such as infrastructures, are discrete event dynamic systems. Thus, the relevant theories mainly originate from DEDS theory. At the same time, use metamodeling to model the general properties of IKN and explore to the final model in specific research area. And building IKN parallel system can be the final goal. This paper, starting from the complex network, combines the properties of scale-free network and the real pattern of IKN, and then presents the concepts, properties and features of IKN, and the three dimensional framework for future study. The following chapter is about the basic theories for modeling and simulation on IKN, including simulation theory, system simulation, parallel system and the social-technical characteristics of IKN. Based on the study above, author gives the research design for simulation on IKN, including the function and significance of IKN parallel system, the key elements of building IKN parallel system and the detailed method for simulation. Finally, this paper takes Harbin airport as case study and builds the Harbin airport parallel system, in order to obtain further understanding about the simulation on IKN properties and the role of IKN parallel system in the development of infrastructure.
