As an extra-big developing country, political stability is always a vital problem which relates to China' modernization and the Chinese nation's future. Political stability has been an important research field. The deep-going practice of the reform and open policy and the establishment of market economy system change the situation of the planned economy times. In those days, people were short of mobility opportunities and had relatively fixed social position. At present, social members' mobility is happening with increasing frequency and the desire of upward mobility is becoming stronger and stronger. As a common social phenomenon, social mobility must exert kinds of impacts, the influence on political stability is one of them.Since social mobility of the city dwellers has different conditions and features from that of villagers, they also have distinct affects on political stability. The urban area is a significant position of maintaining political stability. Therefore, the correct recognition and conduct to the influence of the city dwellers' social mobility on political stability is vital to Chinas social life, and even critical to the reform and construction.This thesis starts with macroscopic study, combines theory with substantial evidence and composes mainly of theoretical analysis. By applying basic theories of politics, sociology and psychology, the thesis analyzes the condition of the city dwellers' social mobility since the early of the 1990s and its dual influences on political stability in a systematic way, and then puts forward the relevant measures.
