| With the rapid development of forest certification, the comparative study of forest certification schemes becomes one of the hotspots in this field day by day. Some comparative studies of forest certification schemes have been made at home and abroad, but little about certification standards. Therefore, this thesis makes study on this aspect, and affords experience and reference for developing forest certification standards according to national and forest conditions in China. The study objects of this thesis are FSC, PEFC, CSA and SFI. Firstly, an introduction to four schemes has been given, the contents including creation, objective, framework, operation, certification standards, certification bodies and certification status. Then comparative studies have been made using the method of standards comparative study combine with case study. The comparative contents include referenced international standards framework, standards development process, standards hiberarchy and standards content. The result of comparative study shows that certifiction standards of four schemes are all based on some international standards framework, and include basic elements of sustainable forest management. However, only the performance standards of FSC are comprehensive and credible. Its participation of stakeholders and transparency are very high, so it could issue credible product label. For three other schemes, the contents of performance standards are not comprehensive, most of them emphasize on economic aspects while make not enough attention to social and environmental problems. Participation of stakeholders and transparency are not high enough, and they couldn't issue credible product label. Finally, summarize the result of comparative study and make the suggestion according to the status of forest resources management in China. The suggestion emphasis on four aspects of referenced international standards framework, standards development process, standards hiberarchy and standards contents.
