This thesis attempts to state that Jacques Chirac opens up an epoch, which is based on his adjustment of the French diplomatic policies during his regime. Besides introduction and conclusion the whole paper is composed of five chapters.Introduction concentrates on the reason of choosing such a topic, which has been investigated both home and abroad and what has been left ever since. The first chapter analyzes the causes of such adjustments. The internal motivation includes Chirac's ambition of creating a French Empire and French economic demands of recovering soon against the background of bi-polar collapse, Germany reunion, American hegemony, major powers' up-and-down, and the decline of France's influence in the world. The second chapter briefly illustrates the adjustment towards other European countries, which is reflected on the multiple allies on the foundation of Paris-Berlin-axis; return to NATO to promote Europe defense system; upholding EU eastward expansion. All these are aimed to strengthen France's centre position in EU and the whole world. The third chapter is focused on the adjustment of French diplomatic policy towards major powers in the world. With the sole superpower in the world, US, France strives for independence, though limited at the same time. With the rest ones, such as Russia, China, Japan, India, etc., France emphasizes on the footing of equality and cooperation instead of disagreement and fights with a strategy of restraining America. The fourth chapter is of the adjustment for the third-world countries such as those in districts like Africa, Middle East, Mediterranean, Asia and Latin-America so that France, as a power in South-North geo-politics, can reinforce his influence in the aspects of resources and marketing. The fifth chapter is about the related influence of such adjustments. Positively, they can accelerate EU integrity; promotes the trend of multi-polarization in order to fight back America; defend UN's authority and establish new international order; strengthen his influence among countries in the third-world; stimulate his economic development; facilitate peace and stability in the worldConclusion mainly concerns with the negative effects of such adjustments and the speculation of its further application.
