The Status Quo And Obstacle Of Government Performance Valuation In China And Suggestions

Government performance is the main criterion to evaluate the efficiency of government. With the rapid development of info-tech, democratization and international competition, government management has become the central issue in the western countries; social fair and democracy become the core value of government management, which demands the government to be more responsible and efficient. The purpose of government performance evaluation is to provide citizens with high quality public goods and services. At present, government performance evaluation in China has not matured, both practical and theoretical. Therefore, it is urgent to research and promote it in China.This paper comprises four parts. Part One provides an overview of the government performance evaluation in China over the last 20 years. Part Two is a case study of Zhejiang Province, which reflects the status quo and factors influencing performance evaluation of local government in China. Part Three probes into the obstacle faced by implementing government performance evaluation in China. Part Four provides policy suggestions on improving government performance evaluation in China.
