The Impact Of Major Issues Of Sino-EU Relations And Countermeasures

On the international political arena of 21 century, China and EU are two major powers and also being regarded as two polar in present multi-polar world. The political relations between the two international players have a greater influence on the progress course of Sino-EU political relations, probe further into the sticking points inside their relations with details, and then bring forward solutions to these existing problems.The first part of the paper briefly reviews the progress and zigzag course of Sino-EU diplomatic relations which set up in the year 1975.The normalization of the Sino-US relations induced the progress of the Sino-EC(predecessor of the EU) relations. Although China and Europe experienced a short retrograde period by the end of 1980's, we found that the determinant influencing their relations has always been the global situation, e.g. the end of the cold war, the trend of globalization and integration. In second part of the paper, the concrete and realistic sticking points are studied separately; they are: arms embargo against China, disputes on human rights, market economy status (MES), and Chinese illegal migration in EU.This part also gives two or more attention to external factors which have been influencing the Sino-EU relations such as America and Taiwan. By studying the origin and cause of these problems, we could find out the feasible solutions. The third part of the paper tables the proposals and countermeasures on the four main issues.
