English is a language used all over the world. In the world of the twenty-first century, senior English writing is still indispensable to senior students in English learning, though emphasis is laid on listening, reading and grammar. English writing is a practice of the writer's comprehensive skill in using the language. Writing takes up 25 points out of 150 in the yearly national university entrance examination of English in Anhui province. Both teachers and students have been aware of the importance of improving students'writing proficiency. However, it seems hard for the students to satisfy the educational requirement. Writing in most Chinese middle-schools can be describe as "the teacher dominates, the teacher lectures and students listen." It is self-evident that the current way of teaching writing has little efficiency. Based on students'present writing ability and the requirements of the new curriculum standard, the author seeks to argue for the great necessity and effectiveness of the constructivism theory and for its urgent application in classroom writing teaching. The author lays special emphasis on the advantages and effectiveness of applying the constructivist theory to teaching writing in high school. The major part is the writing experiment carried out at Dangshan Middle School in Anhui province, the author'school. It is devoted to a detailed description of methodology about experiment, specific research hypotheses, information about the subjects and instrument and questionnaires and interviews. Both the experimental class and control class were compared in terms of the scores on the final exam, especially the scores on the writing part. The data were collected and analyzed through the T-test by the computer software SPSS13.0. A hypothesis was formulated and tested in this study to find out whether there was significant effect on students' writing ability by emphasizing the writing process and whether the results would show that the writing achievement of the experimental class would improve significantly and whether the writing motivation of the experimental class would be improved. The conclusion is reached that the constructivist theory can obviously facilitates English writing teaching in Senior Middle school. In the process of teaching it is necessary to give full play to the theory and strengthen students' writing practice step by step in a planned way so as to improve the students'writing competence on a large scale eventually. The limitations of the writing experimental are also pointed out since the students at both experimental and control classes only have limited time for writing in class, and the suggestions are put forward in the end.
