The continuous development of the economy and society has increasingly diversified the form and content of media. The mass media, becoming an important channel of information, affects all aspects of social development and different groups, followed by a lot of false, harmful information, which serious hinder the correct contact people and reasonable use of media. Because of the particularity of physiology, psychology, etc., primary school students grew up in the media age are more vulnerable to negative information when they contact, select and use media. Therefore, strengthening the reasonable guide for elementary students when using media, and carrying out systematic and standardized of the media literacy education have become contemporary issues which should not be ignored. Because of the special geographical, economic, political and educational factors of Chongqing, it is extraordinarily necessary to understand and grasp the media literacy actuality of primary students in order to carry out relevant theme activities for media literacy education.This research adopts the methods of literature research and investigation research. Based on the summaries of academic and practical studies on media literacy education at home and abroad, this research carries out a survey to investigate the media literacy status of primary students in main Chongqing urban areas through quantitative and qualitative ways, as well as analyzing the cause and influencing factors Combined with the analysis on the investigation results, this research tries to design a series of theme activities on media literacy education to promote the localization and systematization of media literacy education.There are five chapters in this paper. Chapter One is the introduction which mainly discusses the background, the contents, the methods, as well as the significance of the research. Chapter Two is the theoretical study of media literacy education, which includes:1) sorting and analyzing the current situation of theory and practice of domestic and international media literacy education of present; 2) summarizing the definition, content, object, purpose and significance of media literacy education; 3) discriminating media literacy, information literacy, media education and other related concepts. Chapter Three is about the investigation and analysis of the media literacy status of primary students in Chongqing, mainly involving the preparations, objects, implementation of the questionnaires, as well as the results of the survey, which all lead to the media literacy status of elementary school students in Chongqing.Chapter Four designs a series of theme activities for pupils'media literacy education, mainly including:1) ways to the implementation of media literacy education for primary students; 2) the efforts made by the Chongqing authority in the aspects of pupils'media literacy education; 3) the theme activity design of media literacy education for pupils. Chapter Five summarizes the research, and analyzes the limitations.The analysis of the survey shows that due to the lack of self-control, critical awareness and fully understanding of the external environment, especially the media environment, and other reasons, pupils are inferior in effectively controlling the frequency and time when using media, properly managing the relations of media and life. They are prone to enjoying a single-faceted and monotonous way of life, declining the interpersonal skills, irrational consumption and some other problems. The media literacy education needs the joint efforts of family, school and society. As the main base of media literacy education, schools ought to exert its initiative, fully mobilize students' enthusiasm and initiative and actively carry out various types of targeted media literacy education curriculum or activities to enhance the media literacy of primary students, making them better able to contact, know, and make use of media.
