Teacher talk refers to the language teachers use in the second language or foreign language classroom. As a language input and the main medium of instruction, teacher talk is of paramount importance in carrying out the teaching plan. Therefore, how to improve English teaching effectively by reasonable use of teacher talk is concerned in the EFL classroom at present. About the research method, this paper uses descriptive analysis with a case study. The author transcribes the videos of two excellent English reading classes to the texts.Through the analysis to the video of high quality English reading classes, the study shows that teachers try to spend less time on teacher talk in the class and provide more opportunities for students when the teacher talk has clearly delivered to the students and most of the students are of a certain language proficiency to express their own ideas in class. Teachers should use more adjustment techniques to change their methods of asking questions and giving feedback. In a word English teachers should strengthen sensitivity of teacher talk, and learn to use various techniques of teacher talk, lead students to involve in classroom activity to improve learning efficiency, and thus promote the quality and quantity of students' target language.
