In 1902, Qing dynasty released The Authorized Regulations for Schools in which Graduate education was firstly brought into the academic degree system. Peking University took the lead in recruiting and training graduate students in 1918. Since the founding of People's Republic of China, Graduate education in our country has developed of a certain extent, but was suspended for 12 years because of the Cultural Revolution. Graduate education has made great progress in cultivating high-quality and a high-level professional personnel since People's Republic of China Degree Statute was released in 1980. In the pass decade, the scale of graduate education has grown rapidly, but the rapid growth of graduate education recruitment also causes a series of problems which make us realize that only emphasizing on scale and quantity cannot achieve the goal of cultivating high-quality and high-level professional personnel for socialist constructions., the quality of graduate cultivating, as the lifeblood and ultimate goal of graduate education should be drawn much more attention. As the development of our country's higher education reform under the new situation, we must make much more great effort to diversify the cultivated goal and curriculum setting, improve the innovated capacity of graduate students. This thesis tries to analyze the graduate cultivating mode which is the core issue of graduate education from the comparison perspective.This thesis is divided into five parts, first part introduces some related concepts; The second part introduces the history of British graduate cultivating mode, including the period of advance degree system cultivating mode , the period of rising and establishing research cultivating mode, the period of applied cultivating mode and the period of introducing cooperated cultivating mode; the third part introducing Chinese history of graduate cultivating mode, including the period of Germany and Japan apprenticeship mode, the period of introducing American mode, the period of Soviet Union mode, the period of independently exploring cultivating mode before Cultural Revolution and the period of diversity cultivating mode. The forth part contrasts China and Britain graduate cultivating mode in cultivating goal, cultivating form and evaluation methods. The final part, via contrasting situations of China and Britain graduate cultivating mode, I propose some advice to the graduate cultivating mode of our country.
