Because of the old saying he woman without talent must have a god character? the Chinese woman couldn accept school education from ancient times. Until the late 19~?century when the Christian missionaries came to China to establish schools, did the Chinese woman begin their history of school education. From coastal areas to the inland, these missionaries set up an integrated Christian education system which covered kindergartens, primary schools and Universities. Doing missionary work as the missionaries establishment of schools was, the Chinese women began their school education and pursued advanced studies abroad. This dissertation mainly discusses the roles of both the U.S.A. and its Christian church who play in the course of the history of Chinese women education. From the mid~19tI) century to the early 2O~?century, the missionary schools in China which were mostly established and controlled by the Christian church of the U.S.A., had a great advancement to the development of the Chinese women education. In contrast with the women missionary schools, the Chinese women schools still had a great many backwardness. In the meantime, when we affirm the achievements of the foreign churches which offered study opportunities for the women in modem China appropriately, we must pay more attention to the inhere inevitability of the development of the Chinese women education. Moreover, in the late 1 9th century, the Chinese women had gone to study abroad in the U.S.A. with the help of the American missionaries. In the early 2O~?century, under the influence of the Boxer Indemnity the women studying abroad in the U.S.A. became a little tide in China. Having returned homeland, they mostly became professional females and activated all circles in the society. Of course, what the U.S.A. did in the missionary schools is to control the youth in China by means of education. Such is the main purpose which this dissertation mainly discloses. In addition, it also objectively affirms the function of the U.S.A. who advanced the modernization of the Chinese education in part.
