In the ideological political education of colleges and universities, the study of the students' initiative is of certain theoretical and practical significance to meeting the hard challenges facing the ideological political education of colleges and universities in the new environment, to rethinking the limitations of traditional ideological political education, to renewing traditional ideas about ideological political education, to strengthening the effectiveness of ideological political education, and to promoting the growth of college and university students. This paper attempts to make a study on the initiative of students in college and university's ideological and political education. This paper consists of three part.Part one: outline of the initiative of students in college and university's ideological political education. This part presents the meaning and manifestation of the initiative of students in colleges and universities ideological political education. The author discusses the reason for studying the initiative of students in colleges and universities' ideological political education from two differed angles: from the angle of necessity, the author summarises that the study of the initiative of students is the requirement of Marxist scientific outlook on the development of human kinds, the requirement of rethinking the traditional education and the internal requirement of ideological political education; from the angle of real significance, the author summarises that paying great attention to the study of the initiative of students can arouse their consciousness and enthusiasm and change the passive condition of cramming method of education, It is an effective method to improve the results of college and university's ideological political education.Part two: Analysis of problems existing in the play of students initiative in colleges and university's ideological political education and analysis of the cause of the problems. In this part, the author mainly discusses the manifestation of college and university students' lack ofinitiative from the angle of the teaching of "two courses" (the course of Marxist theory and the course of ideological ethics), which is the major channel and position of the ideological political education in colleges and universities. The author, from the angles of college or university students, educators, educational environment, the substance of education and the forms of education, analyses the reason causing student's lack of initiative in colleges and universities' ideological political education, so as to make clear the direction of improvement and to have an abject in view.Part three: Reflection of the ways to deal with students' lack of initiative in colleges and universities' ideological political education. In this part, predicated on the cause of students' lack of initiative in colleges and universities' ideological and political education. The author makes thorough going study on the ways to deal with students' lack of initiative, The author puts forward five methods which can help cultivate and give full play to students ' initiative in ideological political education in colleges and universities; to help college university students correct errors in understanding; to stimulate their initiative; to improve educators' all-round quality; to optimise educational environment; to enriched and improve the substance of ideological political education in colleges and universities; to enrich and renovate the forms of ideological political education in colleges and universities.
