Based on the questionnaire investigation and statistics of the physics teaching materials of the junior middle schools, this dissertation presents some problems existing in the setting and practice of the physics exercises. The function of the exercises shouldn't be limited to the reinforcement of the content of the classroom teaching and the formation of the problem-solving skills. The research of the physics exercises should take the foundation and system into consideration and aim at the whole development of the students.This dissertation raises six items referring to the functions of the physics exercises: cognition, development, education, practice, evaluation and prolongation, each of which has been given a detailed explanation. Five principles according with the physics curricular criterion are made to set the physics exercises: exploring combined with opening, bases combined with backbone, scene combined with practice, science combined interests, integration fitting into the standard of the students' thinker development.
