Achievement motivation refers to the internal force that drives a person tc strive for success or achievements in a specific field of social activities Self-efficacy refers to the belief, judgment or self-concept of the subject. It is a kind of intermediary cognitive factor that plays an important self-regulating role during the individual motivational process. It is also a key factor of reference to be used in interpreting the complicated motivational activities of individuals. Both ol Achievement motivation and Self-efficacy are the major subjects in Motivation Psychology in modern times. In china, college students are a group of people who receive better education and play a significant role in enhancing economic development, promoting social progression, and building a more prosperous China. Therefore, reinforcing Quality Education and improving the comprehensive quality of college students have become a unanimous agreement in the world of college education. Meanwhile, a large variety of researches concerning college students have been conducted. This project intended to carry on a difference and correlated research in regard to study-efficacy and achievement motivation of college students of different sex, grades and majors in the hope of getting significant results, thereby giving effective solutions and ultimately providing help both in theory and practice for the comprehensive understanding of college students, the improvement of the quality of personnel, and the progress of Quality Education in colleges.In this research, a questionnaire about students' academic self-efficacy was administered and a scale in achievement motivation was employed. From several colleges in Wuhan district, 335 male and female undergraduates of Science and Arts were randomly selected according to their grades. The aim of the research was to explore two problems: 1. Whether or not there exist differences in sex, grade, andmajor concerning college students' sense of academic self-efficacy and the achievement motivation level. 2. The relation between self-efficacy and achievement motivation. The results of the research showed that there was a significant difference in college students' achievement motivation level between different sexes; there was a higher level of self-efficacy of developmental competence and achievement motivation among freshman than other grades; the motivation of avoiding failure was higher than that of pursuing success in the synthetic achievement motivation of the four grades; the motivation of avoiding failure among students in Science was significantly higher than that among students in Art; the self-efficacy of academic competence and that of developmental competence were positively correlated; both of the two factors of self-efficacy were positively correlated with the motivation for pursuing success and negatively correlated with the motivation for avoiding failure; Both self-efficacy of academic competence and self-efficacy of developmental competence can significantly contribute to the motivation of pursuing success and avoiding failure and synthetic achievement motivation.By analyzing the contents of the achievement motivation level and the academic self-efficacy, the following findings were got: It is of great importance to enhance students' achievement motivation level and self-efficacy. It is an indispensable method to improve family and school education, to create a favorable environment for students.The disadvantages of test-oriented education should be got rid of whilst Quality Education, especially the training of creativity should be energetically advocated to provide the students with a favorable atmosphere for competition. Reasonable goals for achievement should be set, and students should be encouraged to make unremitting efforts, to advance toward higher goals in thecourse of conquering difficulties and savoring success through positive guide and words stimulus.
