With the development of the information society, it becomes more and more important of the application of mathematics. We must cultivate student's ability to use math .A lot of exam and database for middle school have collect math aplication problems, but there are many difficult discovered in math teaching and learning in middle school, little content in books, lack of instruction, unstable basis of math knowledge use. After clearly research, the author make the conclusion: the only way to cultivate the student using math consciousness and ability is to strengthen the mathematical model thinking and improve the ability of mathematical modeling.The first part introduce the history and status in quo of mathematical model thinking and mathematical modeling , expatiate the importance and necessity of mathematical model thinking. It is a main task to impart mathematical model thinking in middle school teaching.The second part explain constructivism theory: learner can obtain math knowledge through contact, cooperation with others, and construct himself, with necessary resource and background. Mathematical modeling adapts to constructivism .From the point of meta-cognition , mathematical modeling is not only a course of information receiving , process and understanding, but also a thinking course to monitor and regulate activity.The third part states all math concept, principle, theorem and math thinking method is mathematical model. Mathematical modeling is a core pattern of math application. There are two ways to use math in middle school, one is to solve application questions in book, another is to solve math problem in actual. Application question is an important content in middle school. Mathematical modeling for application question is the characteristic for middle school mathematical modeling.The forth part explain the difficulties that students solve application problem,poor understanding ability,and hard to convey the word into math symbal.The way to solve this problem is basis on the book,and cultivate the interesting of learning math.study with actual problem and solve daily question. So the ability of mathematical modelingcan be improved.This part is the core of this paper.The fifth part give a example of class teaching about mathematical modeling for population problem.At last the paper come to the conclusion.
