According to the survey for the disabled persons in 1987, there are 1.71 million deaf children under 14 in China, in which, 700 thousands deaf children below 7.Deaf children below 7 are in developmental level in hearing , speech and intelligence. So early intervention, that is early diagnosis, hearing aid fitting properly, rehabilitation timely to deaf children in this period is very important to them and can make them return main-stream society. The main effect of hearing problem for deaf children is the influence of their speech development that will further influent deaf children not only communicate with others but also their study and mental. Language play an important role in childrens' development even their whole life.Now, we have two techniques to help deaf children to hear sound again, that is hearing aid fitting and cochlear implant. Most deaf children have effective residual hearing and can get benefit from hearing aid, but some children with severe to profound hearing loss need cochlear implant. So evaluation for those deaf children with hearing aid fitting or cochlear implant is important. Up to now, the main method of assessment for deaf children with hearing aid fitting is the aided threshold using warble tone. But the method has limitation because speech is the main tool to communicate each other. In many audiometry clinics, the audiologists and ENT doctors pay more attention to hearing aid fitting, but ignore the evaluation, especially the speech evaluation, but as we know it is important to deaf children. There is fewer report in speech evaluation in China.Parents often emphasize the speech articulation. Some specialists also think speech articulation is more important in hearing and speech rehabilitation. So to improve deaf childrens' speech articulation is more and more noticed by deaf children teachers and parents.Phonetic acquisition in normal hearing children follow some roles. How about phonetic acquisition in deaf children? Which factors can influent phonetic acquisition in deaf children? This paper did some study to find what factors that influent speech articulation and phonetic acquisition for deaf children. Following is the aim, method, result and conclusion of the paper.Aim By analyzing the relationship between hearing aid fitting and speech articulation, the result has significant to improve phonetic acquisition, speech articulation and help to do hearing and speech training. Method All cases are from the same rehabilitation center and divided to two groups according to the differences of hearing aid fitting time and aided threshold. They all have been done speech articulation test and consonant and vowel identification test. Statistical analysis was carried out. Result The hearing aid fitting time and aided threshold has marked correlation with the speech articulation and phonetic acquisition.Conclusion Early hearing aid fitting and effective aided result can improve speech articulation and phonetic acquisition of deaf children.According to the conclusion, this paper give some suggestions in hearing and speech rehabilitation for deaf children.
