With the rapid progress of information technology in our society, education reform in harmony with the development of science and technology has become the center of focus of the whole world in the 21st century. It is one of the most important components of education reform to evoke students' initiativeness as far as possible by creating active atmosphere in class (Independence classroom). Initiativeness enables students to study by themselves and thus is beneficial for their life-long learning. This paper analyzes the traditional teaching method with teacher being the center of the class, and discusses the initiative teaching method with student being the dominant role of the class, by considering new changes of china's education reform in history teaching and by using for reference some relevant theories and practical experience of both home and abroad. During the whole year of research and practice, the method of antithesis is introduced. Classes are divided into two categories, namely experimental class and conventional class, and some aspects of experimental class, such as interest fostering, capability enhancement, knowledge scope and performance statistics, are compared with those of conventional class. The results show that by creating active environment of class, initiative teaching method, with the precondition of esteem, trust and self-consciousness, is helpful for students to specify their goals of study, to motivate their self-learning, to arose their interests of studying, and also to enhance their confidence, which makes students more involved in class and more self-conscious in studying. The teaching method can inspire students' creativeness and urge students to change their attitude towards studying from passiveness to initiativeness. Therefore, this kind of teaching method meets the present requirements of quality education in China, and will necessarily improve the effectiveness of teaching. As a tentative experiment, initiative teaching method will probably be affected by different subjects of students and education environments. However, this paper insists that initiative teaching in class will inevitably be the main trend of education reform in the future.
