Since the practice of the reform and opening policy, education in our country has been expanding in a larger and larger scale, and great achievements have been made in the field of education. However, English education today still fails to meet the needs of the development of the economy and society in China. Great efforts have to be made in order to level the gap. The fact that many learners get low achievement due to psychological factors in English learning which may have cost years or even half of their lives should draw our attention. The problem may find its source in the society, family and environment. There have been many correlative researches concerning the difficulties and obstacles in learning English. However, the research papers on the mental infirmity group remain unavailable. English teaching is a hard nut to crack; it is even a harder nut to crack to find out the psychological factors of the learners in learning English. Since English learning involves many aspects of the contemporary society, instead of only paying attention to the linguistic knowledge in teaching, we must focus more on the English learner's mental conditions, so as to bring real philosophy of human-oriented, democratic and equal education. This current research has adopted the qualitative research, in which the observer or researcher also served as the participant. Six of the cooperators involved in the reviews were English learners from universities, a senior middle school, a junior middle school and a hospital. The present paper mainly deals with the English learners' experiences of their study and lives, their present conditions, their behavior and ideology on English learning, and their expectation, from which to see the factors that bring about the mental infirmity group in the process of English learning. Further questions towards "how it develops, how much does it affect the English learners, and how they look upon the results?" has helped to bring to light and understand the situation of the mental infirmity group in the English learning, thus find ways to crack the hard nut in English learning.
