With the emergency of affective method among all kinds of the methods of English teaching and learning in middle school which meet the need of times' development, affective factor of English teaching and learning in middle school which only valued cognition has been set free from being neglected, and has been paid more and more attentionThe quality education calls for cultivating the talented people of all-round development. The humanism psychology emphasizes that if we want to promote a person's all-round development, we must combine the cognition with affect(卢家楣,2002)."Cognition" and "affect" are the two basic factors of a person's mental world .The mutual promotion and harmonious development of affect and cognition can make the individual mental quality develop very well, and finally it can promote a person's positive development of all aspects of qualities. The linguist and psychologist think that affect in language study means felling, motion, mood and attitude which condition behavior, including motive, interest, personality, will, self-respect, anxiety and repression, etc. In affective teaching and learning, affect consists of emotion, felling, mood and attitude which condition behavior in the process of teaching and learning. Affect has the functions of motive, regulation, enhance, infection, move, signal, appeasement, coordination and health care (Jane Arnold,2002;卢家楣,2002). Positive usage of affective functions is good for mobilizing a person's initiative of study, increasing study efficiency, promoting the intellectual development and building the good study attitude, and it is good for ameliorating the relationship between teacher and students, forming the good social interaction in teaching and learning ,and promoting the student's health physically and mentally, etc.. Thereby, teaching efficiency can be improved and the teaching quality can be guaranteed.The affective method of English teaching and learning in middle school English is a way that emphasizes the positive function of affect in English teaching and learning in middle school to promote the mutual development of affect and cognition. More and more high school English teachers value the affective factor and put affective method into teaching practice, and so make the positive function of affect service for teaching and learning in middle school. As for me, my successful teaching practice and outcome should be due to the using of affective method. Based on the psychological theory that affect improves teaching and learning as well as on writer's teaching practice, the present thesis is an attempt to explore the positive function of affect in English teaching and learning in middle schoolIt discusses about: 1.The theory of affect. 2.The importance of affect in English teaching and leaning in middle school.3.Management of affect in English teaching and learning in middle school. The conclusion is that the positive affect plays a vital role in English teaching and learning in middle school—It can enhance effect and productivity of teaching and learning; It can improve teaching and learning considerably by emphasizing the equal importance of cognition and affect. Eventually it can cultivate people of high-quality for our country.
