Increasingly, English is becoming a major international language tool. English education in China should step into a new stage with the economic development. However, we have a long history of striving almost totally on the use of traditional teaching approaches and methods and language learning strategies, which focus on presenting pieces of the language in carefully graded steps at the cost of teaching students how to learn the language and improving the schools' university enrolment rate in National College Entrance Examination (NECC). (21st Century Teens Senior Edition 2003, http:// www.21se.com.cn) It leads to the tiredness of English learning to some students. The use of English teaching approaches in senior high school is not used rigidly, but flexibly. In order to solve the problems existing in high school, this paper researches Task-Based Approach and its application in practical English teaching. The author studied many English teaching approaches and theories on education and psychology, especially with practical researches and the principles in Task-Based teaching. This approach refers to giving concrete tasks as learning powers or motivations; completing tasks as learning processes; showing tasks' results (instead of the grades of examinations) as teaching success. Students are the body in English teaching process; students' actions are the main line through the whole English lesson. With the concrete motivations, students can study independently and naturally carry out tasks with English that they have learned. At the same time, students can improve the language capabilities when using English in tasks. On the other hand, with the personal practical teaching research, some experiments have been conducted between Beijing No. 19 High School and other High Schools Attached to it in Beijing for two years. Two natural classes of No. 19 High School, first-grade students were involved, who entered the school in 2002. The other first-grade experimental group comes from two bilingual classes of High School Attached to it in 2003.The results of this experiment are as follows: I .Task-Based approach helps to improve the English scores of the students.II .Fulfilling this approach enhances helpfully to develop the self-consciousness of the students.III.Executing this approach is helpful to improve the effect of the English teaching and the students' learning in class.
