Research On The Essence Of Excellent English Teachers In Secondary Schools Under The Background Of The New Curriculum Reform

21 century is an era of information explosion. With the fast development of technology, the competitions between countries are getting fiercer. The society calls for people with adequate knowledge of English. Therefore English has become one important and primary tool for communication. And the students' acquisition of English lies in the teachers' teaching. Meanwhile with the reform of new curriculum, the educational field needs excellent English teachers of secondary schools. That's because a highly qualified English teacher can adapt to the reform in teaching perfectly. Under the instruction of excellent teachers, students can accomplish more in their English learning. We focus our study on the essence of an excellent English teacher. Through the study of the existing books and dissertations about English teachers, we found the main components of the essence of a highly qualified English teacher. In order to make the study more convincing, we have designed some questionnaires to get the opinions of teachers and students on this issue. Besides, I have made a case study on an excellent teacher and thus have acquired a vivid picture of an excellent English teacher. From the above study, the essence of an excellent English teacher of secondary schools has been revealed. That is: he should be completely dedicated to his own career; he should have a high proficiency in English; he should be extraordinarily good at teaching and he should possess a good character. At last some instructive suggestions have been given on the training of highly qualified English teachers.
