This paper is intended to make a deeper discussion on modern personality development status of university student in terms of sociology and social psychology. As a result of questionnaire from 418 university students of Beijing, Guangdong Province, Helongjiang Province, Shanxi Province, Shanghai, Hubei, the fundamental composition and the content of Chinese modern personality are defined, overall modern personality development status of university student and influence elements and 5 psychological characteristics are investigated. In the end, this paper attempts to propose some theoretical explanations. This paper is composed of following 4 parts: The first part introduces the background of this study, reviews relevant study situation, clarifies this study purpose, significance and basic concepts, defines modern personality and its content and offers main study methods. Based on questionnaire, the second part carries out univariate descriptive statistic analysis, discloses current status of university student modern personality and current status of 5 psychological characteristics. From history and positivism point of view, this paper tries to find out the reasons why university student modern personality has such a relatively high development level. With cultural ecologic interactive theory, the reasons why 5 psychological characteristics have differential layout are figured out. Possible reasons why autonomous psychological characteristics develop relatively slowly are investigated in detail. In the third part, bivariate correlation statistic analysis and partial correlation statistic analysis are performed to investigate those social factors which have important influence on university student modern personality development. Education and mass media are verified as independent and effective influence factors, while nature attributes and family background have little influence on university student modern personality development. By contrast with predecessors study achievements, this paper discusses the deeper reasons from sociology point of view. A basic conclusion is drawn out in the fourth part, which attempts to probe into university student realistic personality type, i.e. marginal personality content and significance, and to investigate its relationship with modern personality development. Meanwhile, this paper offers some advices to improve university student modern personality.
