It is well known that vocabulary takes a dominant position in a language and plays a critical part in language teaching and learning. Without vocabulary, none of the five skills of a language (listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating) will be made possible. Vocabulary has always been one of the most difficult parts in language learning. Vocabulary is not neglected by teachers, which shows that in vocabulary teaching, teachers pay more attention to inculcation than to elicitation; pay more attention to vocabulary remembrance than to instruct the students to master the ways of remembering words. Many teachers ignore the cultivation and motivation of the students' vocabulary learning interests. The thesis reports a survey of vocabulary learning strategies used by senior one students in five vocational schools in Guiyang City, and presents some vocabulary learning strategies, aiming at breeding a vocabulary-learning-strategy consciousness for those vocational school students. May the students be willing to learn English and can learn English well.
