Learn To Write Complex Sentences Through Sentence-combining

In the recent English exams of the College Entrance Examination, writing part is very important, whose score is 35. It makes up 23.33 percent in the tatal score of 150. If students wants to get a high mark in the exam, it is very necessary for them to improve their writing. According to the author's composition marking experience, there exsits a common problem in the students' writing. That is, the compositions are almost completely made up of simple sentences with very few complex ones. There's almost no sentence variety in the students' writing which good writing requires. Therefore, to train students to write complex sentences is the keypoint for teachers in their teaching writing.The purpose of the current paper is to bear testimony to the hypothesis that sentence-combining method can be used in writing class effectively and it can improve the students' writing ability. The current thesis tries to prove the hypothesis by means of carrying out experiments in Jiugong Middle School, Daxing District, with two contrast groups in Grade One in the year 2005.The results from the experiment show that the experimental class makes greater progress compared to the comparative class.
