Based on the theories of Second Language Acquisition, Functional Linguistics, Psycholinguistics, Error Analysis and English Writing, this thesis intends to use the framework of Error Analysis to look into the insights of linguistics features of learner errors in English writing, especially writing of middle school students' and further to put forward some new approaches to the treatment of errors and the teaching of writing in the ELT in Chinese schools, especially middle schools. And during the teaching of writing, the author will put forward and analyze the errors found in students' writing to improve students' competence of writing.Learner errors are absolutely necessary in the period of second language acquisition. Learners can make errors in both the comprehension level and the production level of the target language. Contrastive Analysis was once criticized and denounced by the linguists and the linguists held a negative attitude to the learner errors. They thought that the learners mustn't make such errors and they insisted that these errors should be corrected. However, study is a process. Learners' errors will show the distance between interlanguage and the target language, namely so-called errors. Through analyzing the learner errors we may learn about the whole course during which the learners learn foreign languages. The thesis also links the result of those error analyses with the practice of the English teaching in middle schools and aims at using error analysis to improve the middle school students' competence of English writing and provide the teachers with proper attitude.
