Learning strategy is regarded as the intentional behavior and thoughts which learners use to comprehend, study or memorize new information. The proper use of learning strategies can be helpful to the language acquisition. Vocabulary learning is an important part of language acquisition and crucial to the second language proficiency. The use of vocabulary learning strategies can also improve the students' vocabulary learning efficiency.Based on the classification of the foreign language learning strategies, the vocabulary learning strategies this paper tries to study include English vocabulary learning concepts, meta-cognitive strategies and cognitive strategies. According to the factors that influence the use of learning strategies and the facts of English vocabulary teaching and learning in junior high school, this research focuses on the use of vocabulary learningstrategies in junior high schools, the grade and gender differences inEnglish vocabulary learning strategies and differences between the goodlanguage learners and poor language learners.In the last part of this thesis, suggestions are made on the basic trainingprinciples of vocabulary learning strategies and the training methods basedon the findings of this research.
