The phenomena of population suburbanization has been a triumphal tendency in West countries cities after World War II .In China, some mega-cities such as Beijing and Shanghai also have some characteristics of suburbanization after 1980. Research on population distribution and suburbanization is a hot topic in urban geography in China in recent years. The author first gives a summary of literature and analyzes theories on population distribution and suburbanization, then does a empirical study of population distribution and suburbanization Wuhan based on the 4th and 5th population census data and questionnaire.This paper can be divided into five parts: Chapter1 is the introduction; Chapter 2 is the analysis of theories of population distribution and suburbanization and compare the suburbanization between China and the West cities; By comparing data in the fourth national census with data in the fifth national census the third part analyzes the spatio-temporal changes of Wuhan population The analysis includes the distribution of total population, and the population within municipal,territory, urban peripheries as well as all districts and counties of Wuhan. Chapter 3 is the analysis of mechanism of population suburbanization. It was closely related with changes of governance regulations, urban planning, development of real estate, infrastructure construction, rebuilding of old residence region and the removement of residents. Chapter 5 is the conclution of the paper.
