In recent years, people pay more attention to students than teachers in the class in the field of education. The teaching method is mainly student-centred. The goal of teaching is not only to teach English as knowledge but also as a communicative skill. Thus, English teaching method has changed greatly. At the beginning of 1980's, the term "task" began to be used in applied linguistics. And task-based teaching method has become popular. Task-based teaching method has more advantage than traditional teaching method. For example, it focuses on the training of students' cooperation and creativity, and cultivating the students' ability of using language. The purpose of this thesis is to prove that task-based teaching method is effective in English reading class, and it can enhance the students' reading interest and ability, and change SEFC students' learning styles from passive reception to self-access, cooperation and exploration. In order to confirm the point, the author carried out an experiment choosing two classes in Shanggao Middle School, Jiangxi Province. One class is experimental class, the other is control class. Task-based teaching method was employed in the experimental class, and traditional teaching method was employed in the control class. The experiment lasted for a year. A questionnaire was made at the end of the experiment. The data of the experiment shows the reading ability of the students in the experimental class, who take task-based reading training, improved faster than those on the control class. And the students in experimental class did better in the reading comprehension. The result of the questionnaire also proves that the interest of learning English in the experimental class in stronger, the learning styles changed more self-access, cooperation and exploration. All these indicate that model of task-based teaching is efficient in SEFC class. There are mainly five parts in this thesis:The first part is an introduction, which states the definitions of reading and the current problems if reading teaching in SEFC.
