This article adopts some research methods such as literature, questionnaire, interview, mathematical statistics and takes the high school students and teachers engaging in basketball teaching as subjects. Basketball is considered as one of the most popular sports. Under the background of the education reform and the guiding ideology that zealously advocating "health first", researching on the basketball teaching in high school has a significant effect on cultivating students' awareness for sports. Through the field investigation and research on the contemporary condition of basketball teaching, there are some problems as followings: firstly, the insufficiency of the space and equipments and the increasing students bring some difficulties. Second, the backward basketball teaching methods can not light up both the theory and the practice of the meaningful basketball tactics. Moreover teachers spend too much time on the explanation and the demonstration so that the teaching efficiency is influenced. Third, that basketball teaching does not reach the expected effect due to the fact that teachers' conception of teaching is not fundamentally changed. Therefore, students' main body can not be reflected. Forth, for schools imposing alternative education, because of the lack of professional basketball teachers and the limitation of the student numbers, many students can not choose sport events according to their own interests and hobbies. That goes against the basic conception of the new course criterion about sports and health. Fifth, in the basketball teaching practice, the teaching contents can not be connected witheach other among different grades. Many duplication makes the tactics lose systematicness and continuity. Sixth, the fact that part of the school leaders take no notice of PE and hold no support for it influences teachers' initiative and their attitudes towards its teaching reform. This article aims at presenting some beneficial suggestions for basketball teaching reform and promoting this reform deeply in Fujian Province.
