The main purpose of this study is to discuss the current situation and thepsychological and behavioral performance of middle-school students' idolatry, and alsothe relationship between students' self-worth and idolatry. The essay is expected tofurther the study on adolescents' idolatry and to provide some references for the practiceof idolatry education in middle schools.Therefore, in the summary, we discussed the historical origins of idolatry,summarized the specific connotation of idolatry, presented the relationship betweenadolescent and idolatry, reviewed the theoretical and empirical studies in the past, andpointed out the motivation and meaning of this study. In the empirical part, by usingIdolatry Background Questionnaire and Idolatry Psychological Behavior Scale formiddle-school students which designed by the author and Self-Worth Scale whichdesigned by Huang Xiting and Yang Xiong, we researched 344 middle-school studentsin Fuzhou. The Idolatry Psychological Behavior Scale by ourselves is mainly used tomeasure psychological and behavioral involvement of idolatry. There are four factors inthe scale: identification, attachment, imitation and investment. Upon statistical test, thescale has been proved to have good reliability and validity.The results showed: The phenomenon of idolatry universally existed in the middleschools. The characteristics of idolatry are varied in the demographic factors (genderand grade). The middle-school students get moderate level of psychological andbehavioral involvement of idolatry. The psychological and behavioral performance ofmiddle-school students' idolatry is varied in the demographic factors (gender and grade),type of idols, motivation of idolatry and attitude of parents. The self-worth ofmiddle-school students is varied in the levels of psychological and behavioralinvolvement of idolatry. The idolatrous psychological behavior of middle-schoolstudents and the self-worth of them are significantly correlated. The psychological andbehavioral performance of middle-school students' idolatry can forecast their self-worthin a certain extent.
