From the perspective of business management, The education of students in higher schools consists of two parts: one is academic affairs which base on the courses learning and academic training, another is student affairs which changed heavily because of the expansion of the scale of the students, including registration, financial assistance, the guiding of career development and accommodation, and so on. Compared to the first part, these affairs are indirect with students' courses learning and academic training, but it shows the trend of specialization development. In American higher education, the two parts of the affairs were called as academic affairs and the student affairs. In the discussion of student management, the so-called "academic affairs" and "student affairs" are the words of specific context. Therefore, in this study, as the practical characteristics and most related usage of the two words, they are used to define the two kinds of student management. The relationship between academic affairs and non-academic affairs is one of the controversial topics of American higher education. In the early half of the 20th century, the center of the student work in American are academic affairs, which are in charge of teachers, while the student affairs are the supporting roles of the school education and training to provide services for students (rather than teaching). As the reasons such as expansion of the school , increasing number of students, the student affairs developed in the direction of specialized and professional, thereby, student affairs gradually alienate academic affairs and the core of studenteducation-students learning. As result, student affairs' function andstatus have been challenged. In the 1970s, the tremendous changes in higher education led to people's reflection on relationships between student affairs and academic affairs, and think that alienation between student affairs and academic affairs hindered the using of school resources to promote students' learning and progress. Students' learning involved in every part of school, only by the collaboration with teachers, administrators and student affairs can colleges and universities create a good learning environment and inspire students' learning vigor and enthusiasm. Around the 1990s, many American higher schools have created the partnership between student affairs and academic affairs. In the process of transition of relationships between student affairs and academic affairs, it shows the value of American colleges and universities that they do all the work in student-orientated, to promote student learning and development as the central task, to serve as the: basic contents. At the same time, by contacting closely with the academic activities, the specialization and academic development are the two wings of the student affairs' development.By analyzing the historical development of the relationships between student affairs and academic affairs based on studying concrete practices and typical classics, the thesis focuses on the core values and characteristics of the transition of relationships, try to expound its procession and value orientation systematically and comprehensively. This paper is made up of five chapters.
