Research Of Influencing Factors Of Homosexual's Identification

Homosexuals' identifications of homosexuality reflect not only their physiological interests in the same gender as well as their specific way of sexual relationship, but also reflect their roles and behaviors which are correspondent with their identification of homosexuality. And meanwhile, the contradiction between falling in love with the opposite sex as main stream and homosexuality as a subculture has been restructured in homosexuals' minds while they are forming their identifications. To identify an individual him or her self as homosexual or not is a major part of self identification and the process to do so is dynamic. The internal and external factors of an individual will both put influence on this dynamic process.Through qualitative research, factors that influence individuals' identification of homosexuality have been discussed. Through half-structured interviews with 39 homosexuals and arrangement of observation materials, 82 elementary coda, 31 category, 11 subtitle and 4 main titles have been formed through 3 times categorizing and analyzing. Three major factors that influence homosexuals' identification have been found. They are circumstances, self experiences and personality. Circumstances include macro-circumstances, mid-circumstances and micro-circumstances, according to individuals' disparity of mental distance. Self experiences can be divided into four phases which are childhood, school age, adolescence and adults. Personalities include values, capacities and characteristics.Circumstances, self experiences and personality, as three influential factors, play different role on homosexual identification while they are interacted. Personality and circumstance have played an indirect influence on homosexual identification. Personality determines individuals' way of expressing and comprehending information. Circumstances affect individuals' experiences and their personality. Self experience will also influence personality. And meanwhile, individuals' extents of homosexual identification will still retroact to their personality, experience and circumstances.
