The modern compulsory education came to China as the western countries invaded us. It has never got rid of the limitation of times when it started difficultly and wandered with great hesitation. And it was not until the establishment of the period of Nanjing national government compulsory education became the duty of government. The implementation of compulsory education from 1927 to 1945 did make some achievement though it was influenced by the volatile political environment and the chaos caused by war. In particular, the flexible use of alternative means of education is worth drawing on and using for reference in view of the war years of foreign aggression. The paper introduces the situation and the experience of compulsory education in the period of Nanjing national government by studying the aspects of the system of compulsory education, the training of teachers, the raising of funds, the administrative supervision and so on.The introduction of the article concludes and summarizes the significance of the topic and the value of doing the research. At the same time, it also describes the status quo of researches on the issue. Besides, the paper also makes some introduction accordingly to the data and the methods of researching used while writing.There are four parts in the main body of the paper.The first part defines what compulsory education is. It analyzes the characteristics of compulsory education and its development in different times of modern China.The second part analyses compulsory education during the period of Nanjing national government f. It introduces the implementation of compulsory education in this period from three aspects of the system of compulsory education, the training of teachers, and the raising of funds.The third part reviews the administrative management and supervision to compulsory education. And we can see the degree of management from the description of the above two aspects.The fourth part reviews the development of compulsory education by the examples. By the analysis of compulsory education in different districts, we can not only tell the differences of district development but also analyze the characteristics of compulsory education itself. And we can get an in-depth and specific impression of the development of compulsory education in the period of Nanjing national government.The conclusion part of the paper finally gets the experience of the period of Nanjing national government in compulsory education on the basis of the discussion of the body part of the paper. That is the legislation is the foundation, the teacher is the key, the fund is the guarantee and also the means of running a school should be various and flexible.
